Furious Chapter 30 Devotional
The Law of Christ
đ Scripture Focus:
ââShare each otherâs burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.â
(Galatians 6:2, NLT)
When Paul tells the Galatians to âobey the law of Christ,â heâs saying something radical. Itâs the only time this exact phrase appears in the Bibleâand heâs using it intentionally. Remember, Paul is writing to believers who were being pressured to follow the law of Moses. The Judaizers were teaching that righteousness came through law-keepingâcircumcision, festivals, rituals, rule after rule.
But Paul flips the script. There is a law for believers, he saysâbut itâs not the Mosaic code. Itâs the law of Christ. So what is that?
Jesus Himself gave us the answer. When asked what the greatest commandment was, He replied: âYou must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.â (Matthew 22:37â40)
Jesus boiled down the entire law to love. And He didnât just teach itâHe modeled it. On the night before His death, He told His disciples: âA new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.â (John 13:34)
Thatâs the law of Christ: Love others the way Jesus loved you.
But that can feel abstract, canât it? What does it actually look like in real life? Paul gives us a practical way: âShare one anotherâs burdens.â Thatâs it. Thatâs how we love like Jesus. Thatâs how we fulfill His law. We see the weight someone is carryingâand we shoulder it with them. We step into their pain, their grief, their exhaustion, and we say, âYouâre not alone.â
It could be as dramatic as helping someone through a crisis, or as simple as sitting with a friend in silence. It might mean financial support, practical help, emotional presence, or even quiet intercession in prayer. The point is: love doesnât stand back with advice. Love gets under the weight.
đ„ Reflection
Are you carrying someoneâs burdenâor just watching them struggle? Is there someone in your life who needs your presence more than your opinion?
đ Prayer
Jesus, thank You for carrying my burden. Thank You for loving me with more than words. Help me to live out Your lawânot by striving to impress You, but by loving others the way Youâve loved me. Teach me to walk in step with Your heart. Amen.
đŁ Call-to-Action
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you someone whose burden you can help carry this week. Donât overthink it. Send a text. Bring a meal. Lend an ear. Lift the weight, even just a little. Thatâs how you fulfill the law of Christ.
